Marketplace: 3 Hiring Tips for Law Firms

Law firms were sitting in the cat-bird seat for quite a while, in terms of the job marketplaceNow, employees have the upper handSo, how can a law firm with hiring needs find success in a marketplace where they’re no longer in the driver’s seatWell, there’s no perfect solution; but, here are a few suggestions you could employ:

First, try to make your law firm a more compelling environment for potential hiresDoes your website look like an enjoyable place to work, or does everyone’s headshot seem like it’s a hostage photoHow do your social media profiles look?  What does your content that you produce say about your law firmEvery job candidate is going to vet your web presence; and, what you’re doing there has to appeal to your potential hires, in the same way that it does to your potential clients.

Second, you’ll need to rethink your compensation modelWhile salary isn’t the only thing that new attorney hires want, it’s still pretty darn important; and, in this marketplace, you may need to increase what you’re willing to payBut, you should also consider adding or improving benefits, offering professional development opportunities (including hands-on court work) and paying origination credits.

Third, your static, old job posting is not going to cut it any longerYou will now need to create compelling job descriptions, that will encourage a potential applicant to read furtherIn other words, you’ll want to create opening content like Charles Dickens would.
