Close Talker: Referrals from Other Lawyers are Nearer Than You Think

The cool thing about working in 2024, is that everybody has more flexibility than ever before -- especially about where they want to workThat’s awesome; and, that’s as it always should have beenAnd, it’s also true for business owners, who should no longer feel compelled by client perception to work in a downtown officeAnd, lawyers: most of your clients, too, are working from homeThey get itLiterally everyone gets it.

But, if you never leave your house, you might wake up one day with Cheetos dust covering your lips, and wondering what happened to Tuesday(In this hypothetical, it’s Friday.)  Human contact is still a good thingAnd, with respect to managing a law firm, contact with other attorneys can be essential for building a viable referral network.

So, even if you don’t want a traditional office space – and, honestly: why would you? – you can opt for an office share, potentially within the offices of another law firm, that you can use on an ad hoc basis . . . potentially just for the conference room, or the snacks(No judgment here.)

But, if you can find a space where attorneys work whose practices complement yours, i.e – they can send you referrals, just sharing space with those folks can drive revenue, since it’s much easier to pass a referral along to someone you see every so often, outside of the confines of a Zoom screen.

So, if you feel like your referral networking has fallen off, kick off your Adidas slides, and find a physical spot to hang with other lawyers.
