The Rundown: AI Delivers Case Updates

Back in the Dark Ages – you know, before case management software was available for law firms – it was a real pain to find anything; it usually meant searching through paper folders (if you could find them), or rummaging through siloed data online. 

 

It’s much better now. 

 

But, even with traditional versions of law practice management software, while I could find what I needed more easily – if I hadn’t stepped into (metaphorically) that case file in a while, I still had to go through the process of bringing myself up to speed, which is always a bummer. 

 

It’s much better now, though – because artificial intelligence is phenomenal at collating and summarizing large sets of data.  Mix it into your case management software, and it’s like you never left the file. 



At this point, most vendors are starting to load basic AI features into their base platforms, rather than making those part of premium versions of the software.  That means that, if you own a law practice management software, you’re likely to have a case summarize button at your disposal, or you can make that happen through other software features. 

 

In fact, this doesn’t just extend to your case management software – anywhere you have client data accessible & AI features available, you can get summations, any time you want.  Lead updates from your CRM; document file wrap-ups from your file storage tool & more.  In fact, if you’re using a product like Gemini Notebook, and load it up with your data, or give it access to same, via Google Drive – your summaries could take a variety of forms, like a podcast, an infographic, a vide overview, or even flashcards. 

 

AI means a lot of things for lawyers; but, it’s clearly at least a way to ramp up faster, and to reduce your familiarization time, as you move between client matters.  Law is a game of inches, and that time saved – when added up, especially – can be really impactful.
